Before the world came to a screeching halt, I had the pleasure of working with one of the legends in American Superbike racing. With the help of Yamaha Motor USA, I was able to live and work along side Josh Hayes, Melissa Paris and their 2 year old son, Hawk. The original intent was to capture the effort of the MP13 team as they prepared for the 2020 Daytona 200.
Kicking off at the beautiful Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds Al, with MotoAmerica as they completed their preseason testing and continuing the journey to Daytona International Speedway. It was a blast spending the time with them and being embedded. However, as the world slowly came to grips with the impending COVID-19 pandemic, we were suddenly forced off the track and left scrambling for a trip home.
Fortunately, I was able to get a couple videos out of the deal!
EPISODE 1 – Barber Motorsports Park
Barber Motorsports Park was our first stop. Josh was asked to step in for an injured Mathew Scholtz and test the Westby Racing Yamaha R1. Day two saw Josh finally turn some laps aboard his MP13 Yamaha R6
EPISODE 2 – Daytona Interrupted
We finally made it to Daytona! The team was on it and Josh was clearly ahead of the pack. Leading all the practice sessions until… two very big words were spoken.
